Tamil storytelling Kathai Arangam at Serangoon Library, 16 Aug 2026

Tamil storytelling returns to Serangoon Public Library on Sunday 16 August 2026, with a 30-minute in-person session of Kathai Arangam (கதை அரங்கம்) from 3pm to 3.30pm. The National Library Board programme is aimed at preschoolers aged 4 to 6, children aged 7 to 12, and parents, and it is listed under reading, storytelling, and Tamil-language events.

The session takes place at the Programme Zone on level 4 of Serangoon Public Library, inside NEX mall at 23 Serangoon Central, #04-82/83, Singapore 556083. NLB also lists the room as Programme Zone (Level 4R) at the Serangoon Library branch. The time zone is Singapore (same clock as China and Malaysia).

What Kathai Arangam is

Kathai Arangam (கதை அரங்கம்) is NLB’s in-person Tamil storytelling slot at this branch. It is a short, live programme rather than a drop-in all-afternoon activity: half an hour on a Sunday afternoon, in Tamil, for families with young children. The listed audiences are preschoolers (4–6), children (7–12), and parents. Categories on the listing are Areas of Interest > Reading, Event Type > Storytelling, and Language > Tamil.

Because the window is only 30 minutes, families who want seats should treat it as a timed library programme, not a casual browse. NLB asks participants to arrive 10 minutes before the session starts. The library also states that it reserves the right to deny entry to anyone who does not follow the ground rules.

Dates through late 2026

The listing names three Sunday dates and describes the pattern as monthly third Sundays. The sessions given are:

  • Sunday 16 August 2026, 3:00pm–3:30pm
  • Sunday 20 September 2026, 3:00pm–3:30pm
  • Sunday 15 November 2026, 3:00pm–3:30pm

There is no October date on the published list. The organiser notes there would not be any sessions on public holidays. If a third Sunday falls on a public holiday, expect that month to be skipped rather than moved, unless NLB posts a replacement.

The heading on the listing still says “Future Dates in 2025” while the actual calendar is 2026. Use the three Sunday dates above, not the year in that heading.

Photos, access, and how to get there

NLB may photograph or film the programme and people taking part. By attending, you agree that NLB may take photographs and/or videos of you, or of your child, and may use those images and videos to archive, exhibit, and publish them for publicity or any other NLB purposes.

The library is inside NEX at Serangoon Central. Serangoon MRT (North East Line and Circle Line) is the nearest station; the mall sits over the interchange. For wheelchair-friendly bus and MRT routes and for social stories, NLB points to go.gov.sg/wheelchair-friendly-routes-social-stories. Select Serangoon Public Library on that page for the branch-specific notes.

The listing does not name a ticket price or a registration fee. Treat it as a free NLB library programme unless the branch posts otherwise closer to the date. Confirm the session on NLB’s event page before you travel, especially around public holidays.
