Homely Chinese restaurant at NEX serving nourishing slow-cooked herbal soups and comforting home-style dishes.
Lao Huo Tang at NEX is a family-style Chinese restaurant best known for its slow-simmered Cantonese-style soups, served steaming from large metal cauldrons in a relaxed, traditional setting. Diners come for the likes of lotus root and peanut soup, old cucumber soup, and herbal black chicken with dried scallop, alongside more substantial plates such as ginseng herbal chicken, marmite chicken and sweet and sour pork. It is the sort of place that turns a simple meal into something restorative, with a menu built around wholesome, home-cooked flavours rather than flash.Beyond the signature soups, the kitchen offers a broad spread of zi char-style dishes, from pig trotters in vinegar to sambal kangkong with cuttlefish and Coca-Cola mid-joint wings, making it well suited to shared family meals or a comforting solo bowl. The NEX outlet accepts online food delivery across Serangoon and surrounding estates, so a nourishing dinner is never far away, whilst the comfortable dining room makes it a dependable stop for shoppers needing a proper sit-down meal mid-visit.
Warm, unfussy and genuinely family-friendly, Lao Huo Tang at NEX is a dependable neighbourhood choice for anyone craving honest, slow-cooked comfort. Drop by for a hearty bowl, savour the familiar flavours, and let a steaming pot of soup do what it does best.

Food were so mid, probably only the soup broth is decent (comes with one refillable). Rice was bad, wasn’t fragrant and tasted grainy like cheap rice. Personally recommend going for zi char places around the hood instead

Enjoyed the XO prawns and asparagus but for $25.80 perhaps asparagus should be more generous. The meat in the Duck soup with salted veg was too dry and tough $19.80. Service was fast and help was rendered promptly. A little too pricey in my opinion for the portion sizes.

Since Lao Huo Tang is known for its soup, we ordered a few types to share! Taste not bad, though we wished there were more soup than ingredients (such as pork ribs in the White radish pork rib soup with wolfberries, or an abundance of …

We loved the salted egg fish skin and pig stomach soup. Budda over the wall were too salty to out liking. Ventilation in the restaurant could be improved, and we felt warm after a while. Would suggest adding some ceiling fans if the temperature is not adjustable.
